3200 participants of 2012 edition of GF Giordana in Aprica (SO). Cappè wins among men, Rinaldi first of women. In medium path win Bonfanti and Giussani, in the short path Acquistapace and Schartmüller. A great success for GS Alpi di Vittorio Mevio.
 
 
Matteo Cappè puts his personal signature on the prestigious golden of GF Internationale Giordana of Aprica (Sondrio), a victory built on Mortirolo and consolidated with a race run on the attack. Ilaria Rinaldi repeated herself, she made a race against men and has covered the 175 km of the race using 15’  less than last year.
The protagonists of the day are all the 3200 participants, although a special mention must be deserved to the winners of Mediofondo (155 km), Niki Giussani and Monica Bonfanti, and to those of Fondo (85 km), Andrea Acquistapace and Astrid Schartmüller.
A day of great sport, with GS Alpi that has launched granfondisti at the attack of Passo Gavia, Mortirolo and, for those of Granfondo, also Santa Cristina.
The start at 7.30 am, given by the Mayor of Aprica Carla Cioccarelli, but many have started to paw the ground in front of the grills already at 5.30am, then at 6.00am the assault to the best position.

Up to the first hairpins of Gavia, there were no significant actions, then when the road started to climb Andrea Natali, Roberto Cunico and Niki Giussani started the forcing that led them to earn up to 1’. But halfway up the Gavia have come out even the two Colombian Botero Salazar and Amaya Chia, out of the race because pro’ of mtb, but able to disrupt the rhythms of the race. Cunico, at the beginning of the road to Santa Caterina, has literally put the turbo and in Bormio he was alone with 2’ of advantage on Giussani and the two Colombians.

The beautiful, clear day, with only a few clouds on the horizon, gave views of incomparable beauty. Road closed to cars, was the maxim of the deus ex machina of Granfondo Giordana Vittorio Mevio, and so was. It was evident, however, that the most important moment of the race was on Mortirolo. Cunico seemed in trouble. Even before the half of the race, Matteo Cappè with an incredible progression reached Cunico and the two Colombians and in front of the mythical 11° hairpin, one dedicated to Marco Pantani, he was alone, in front of all the others. At the end of Mortirolo Cappè had an advantage of 2’10’’ on Bertuola, Falzarano, Zen and Giussani.

At that point the race had no history, only Giussani chose the Medio path and won in 5h17’22 “, second Orsucci, third Corbetta.
Cappè  faced alone the climb of Santa Cristina and won Granfondo in 5h54’03”; second position for Bertuola, third Falzarano. Fourth, deservedly, the ex pro’ Zen, while in the descent from Mortirolo, Cunico Mortirolo fell and to him was the way of withdrawal.

Successful beyond all expectations for Ilaria Rinaldi that has “jumped” a lot of men. To make clear her superiority, it’s suffice it to say that Claudia Avanzi, second, close the race 35’ afther the winner. Third position for Cristina Lambrugo.

GF International Giordana, stage of Challenge Giordana, Nobili/Supernobili, Coppa Lombardia C-Performance and Gran Trofeo, was race but also solidarity, thanks to the donation of 4,000 Euro to Associazione Paoletti, which deals with educational projects for children.
The 2012 edition has been a success, beautiful also the evening of Saturday with the concert in tribute to Lucio Battisti.
